Department of Geography Newsletter
Thanks to the efforts of Dr.Joni Storie, the Department of Geography has reincarnated its newsletter. The previous incarnation, Dirty Earth, was last published back in the 1970s. After a thought provoking “name the newsletter contest”, GeoMatters was voted as the title for the newsletter. GeoMatters will be published twice a year; one edition each for the Fall and the Winter terms.
The newsletter is available to anyone with an interest in geography. It is available here as a download or you can receive a copy by e-mail (please fill out the form below). You can also keep up with us on Facebook (Department of Geography University of Winnipeg) or on Twitter (UWinnipeg Geography).
In the Spring 2017 issue of GeoMatters we focus on the Department’s partnership with NTNU exploring sustainable energy in the north. Honours student Shannon Bailey describes her experience travelling to Norway and learning about biomass energy production and Dr. Chris Storie announces a joint UW-NTNU field trip to Churchill in conjunction with the Department’s field course. Dr. Storie also writes about a new method to produce land use/land cover maps of Manitoba. Dr. Gina Sylvestre talks about her connection with the North End Wellness Elders Inc. and their work helping seniors living in poverty. Dr. Marc Vachon gives us an update about Department activities and we tell you about another successful Trivia Night.
If you have any suggestions for future newsletter articles, please feel free to contact us at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
